wake up with a little lemon...



Goodmorning everyone, welcome to a brand new week!

On the road to developing healthier habits, i've been starting my mornings with warm water and lemon. I think i've mentioned this before on the blog, but I thought it was worth repeating due to all the health benefits. Warm water with lemon first thing after waking helps to stimulate the digestive system and release toxins. It's cleansing, hydrating, and boosts your immune system too, amongst a long list of other benefits.

I was never one for coffee first thing in the morning, instead i'd have black tea with milk and sugar, but I find lemon water is much more satisfying now. I feel good about starting the day off healthier. And if I can get up early enough to enjoy it slowly, like a cup of tea, it makes all the difference! It's recommended that you don't eat for 30 mins afterward, which works out perfect for me by the time I get ready, whip up a smoothie, and head off to work. Of course, each morning isn't perfect if i've overslept or running late, but I try to drink lemon water throughout the day anyway. I swear I drink way more with lemon, than without! Definitely worth trying out for yourself...

*Squeeze half a lemon into a glass of warm water, never boiling. Some people like to add fresh ginger. I also try to get organic lemons when I can.

    1. Yeah, I just try to really make a habit of it. Sometimes I even make it the night before and have it waiting on my bedside table.

  4. It is a great drink for alkalinity, I normally drink it around noon and have kombucha in the morning.

    2. Try the Kombucha!! It is a fermented tea so it has really refreshing, fruity, *slightly* 'hoppy' taste, kinda of like a white ale. GT's is my personal favorite.

  5. I love lemon! There are some delicious lemon teas out there as well... I'm sure the benefits of lemon tea aren't as great as just straight up lemons, but it might be easier for those that have a hard time with the taste! =) I love your photos as well, so simple.

    1. That's true! I would assume the fresh lemon is better, but lemon tea is still way better than coffee!

  6. Cool this is my routine also for quite a while now. It is refreshing and really works.

    Make sure you drink through a straw because it will kill your teeth! And don't brush your teeth right after you've drink this lemon water.

    Keep this healthy way going!

    1. Glad to hear you're already doing this Garcel! I've been meaning to get some straws, for my smoothies too, but all that plastic kills me. I should get some stainless steel ones maybe!

  10. Oh, I like this post. The photography is so crisp and clean! I drink coffee every morning, but I should certainly try to add some lemon to my afternoons!

  11. Love lemon water....I'm also a big fan of lime juice so mostly that's what I use...but not first thing in the morning. I will try it though...sounds refreshing!

    I love that large photo though! You need to sell me a print NOW lol....I'd love to lean it casually against my backsplash in the kitchen....PERFECTION! seriously...

  12. On a hot summer day, a squeeze of lemon in cold clear water is my favourite refreshing drink. I also enjoy lemons for their sunny yellow colour and organic oval shape, so I liked your photos a lot - well done.

  13. nice idea with the fresh ginger, and gorgeous instagrams. I would love to try this, I get horrible caffeine withdrawal so it would have to be on a day where I wasn't working... or seeing people!

  14. I love lemon in the mornings, especially when I can sit and sip it while slowly starting my day. My spouse on the other hand hates it and makes he silliest sounds while drinking it.
